After being served, the diner complained that the potato slices were soggy and too thick sending them back to the cook, George Crum. Upset that someone would criticize his cooking, Crum sliced a new batch of potatoes paper-thin, fried them in boiling oil until crispy then lightly salted them. But, what was intended as a stunt, turned into an instant hit, forever known as Original Saratoga Chips for over 160 years!
